Rolf Verbeek began conducting at age 14 at the Groningen Conservatory, and received his master’s degree in orchestral conducting in 2015, where his main teacher was Arjan Tien. He participated in masterclasses of Jorma Panula, Jac van Steen and Jurjen Hempel. As intendant of Opera Zuid, Miranda van Kralingen invited him to intern at the company, which resulted in conducting the co-production The Sopranos with ICK Amsterdam. This production was invited for a reprise at Riccardo Muti’s Ravenna Festival.
Rolf has conducted a significant number of orchestras. His work for the Camerata of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra and the Dutch National Opera Academy supported by musicians of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, deserve special mention. Also trained in french horn, Rolf has played in orchestras including the North Netherlands Orchestra, Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Residentie Orchestra of The Hague, and the Metropole Orchestra, with conductors including Edo de Waart, Jaap van Zweden and Neeme Järvi.
Rolf Verbeek will assist Barbara Hannigan during the European tour of The Rake’s Progress with LUDWIG Orchestra, as well as assist during the Ojai Music Festival.
