In February and March, various EQ team members visited Barbara in Hamburg during the rehearsals for Lulu at Staatsoper Hamburg, and in Paris for the La Voix humaine performances at Opéra national de Paris.
On Monday February 19th, a special presentation about the new documentary film project “Barbara Hannigan – Taking Risks”.
The film follows Hannigan as she prepares herself for her first opera production as a conductor of Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress and recruits the cast of Equilibrium singers through a personal selection process.
Sophia joined us for the EQ auditions in Stockholm and then for the LUDWIG tour last December. She will be with us for The Rake’s Progress: writing, contributing, and learning with the team.
Also by way of EQ, the pianist, composer and conductor Edo Frenkel got in touch, and serendipity created an opportunity for us to work together in the preparation of a Satie Socrate project at the Ruhrtriennale. I look forward to working with him again in future.
Recently I was assisted by the young(er than me) conductor Gabriella Teychenné on my European tour with the Netherlands’ Ludwig Orchestra. She was a welcome addition to our tour. Her positive energy and fierce talent were inspiring to me and to the players in the orchestra, and I’m very happy she will assist me for my concerts in January 2018 at Munich Philharmonic!

EQ singers invited to perform in the Barbara Hannigan and Friends concert for Radio France.
I was absolutely thrilled and inspired with the quality and energy of all those who have auditioned for EQ, most recently in London, but also in Paris, Zurich and Stockholm.
We are thrilled to announced that Accentus Music is filming a documentary on Equilibrium’s first venture, The Rake’s Progress, with Gothenburg Symphony.
