William Morgen and Elgan Llyr Thomas, two EQ tenors, perform this month in the English National Opera / Regent’s Park Theater production of Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw.
Ojai Festival 2019 Music Director Barbara Hannigan and Artistic Director Thomas W. Morris shared initial programming for the 73rd Festival, June 6-9, 2019. The programme features Barbara in various facets: as a singer, conductor and mentor, including performances of The Rake’s Progress with EQ singers.

Announcing the Equilibrium Young Artists and EQ’s first season of performances, including The Rake’s Progress and Mozart’s Requiem. After processing applications from 350 singers from 39 countries, and hearing 125 live auditions, Barbara Hannigan selected 20 young professional singers and one young conductor from 11 countries to participate in the debut season of Equilibrium.
EQ Mentorship: Gabriella Teychenné will assist Barbara with conducting engagements throughout the 2018/2019 season.
In February and March, various EQ team members visited Barbara in Hamburg during the rehearsals for Lulu at Staatsoper Hamburg, and in Paris for the La Voix humaine performances at Opéra national de Paris.
On Monday February 19th, a special presentation about the new documentary film project “Barbara Hannigan – Taking Risks”.
The film follows Hannigan as she prepares herself for her first opera production as a conductor of Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress and recruits the cast of Equilibrium singers through a personal selection process.
Sophia joined us for the EQ auditions in Stockholm and then for the LUDWIG tour last December. She will be with us for The Rake’s Progress: writing, contributing, and learning with the team.
Also by way of EQ, the pianist, composer and conductor Edo Frenkel got in touch, and serendipity created an opportunity for us to work together in the preparation of a Satie Socrate project at the Ruhrtriennale. I look forward to working with him again in future.
