S1ngS1ngNews, Projects

After processing applications from 350 singers from 39 countries, and hearing 125 live auditions, Barbara Hannigan selected 20 young professional singers and one young conductor from 11 countries to participate in the debut season of Equilibrium. EQ artists have been chosen not only for their exceptional talent and high-level of musicianship, but also for their passion, drive, curiosity, discipline, versatility and creativity.

Joining the EQ team are sopranos Sofie Asplund, Aphrodite Patoulidou, Elizabeth Karani, Ylva Stenberg; mezzo-sopranos Fleur Barron, Kate Howden, Marta Świderska, Tuuri Dede; tenors , Elgan Llyr Thomas, Gyula Rab, James Way, William Morgan, Ziad Nehme, Thomas Elwin; bass-baritones Yannis François, John Taylor Ward, Douglas Williams; basses Antoin Herrera-Lopez Kessel, Erik Rosenius, Trevor Bowes; conductors Gabriella Teychenné, Alphonse Cémin and Levi Hammer.

In January 2017 Barbara Hannigan launched the Equilibrium initiative to mentor young professional musicians who are in the first substantial phase of their careers. Equilibrium provides mentoring for participants as well as performance opportunities with esteemed orchestras, festivals and concert halls in Europe and North America. One of the most important aspects of EQ includes intensive workshop retreats, which focus on developing and strengthening the skills needed for sustaining a fulfilling career. EQ also involves ongoing mentorship for all selected participants, outside the workshops and performance projects.
