Charlotte Corderoy, is a London-based conductor and MD. She recently graduated from the Orchestral Conducting Masters course at London’s Royal Academy of Music.
Summer 2023 sees Charlotte make her professional debuts at Opera Holland Park (Associate Conductor, Hansel & Gretel), and with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (British Youth Opera, Three Choirs Festival, The Pilgrim’s Progress). She will also MD at the Leicester Curve Theatre for National Youth Music Theatre’s 2023 production of Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate.
In 2024, Charlotte will assist Barbara Hannigan with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra as they perform Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress. Her recent work include Assistant Conductor to Barbara in a Stravinsky recording produced by Linn Records, as well as Assistant Conductor for British Youth Opera’s 2022 production of Vaughan-Williams’ Sir John in Love.
Charlotte was one of seven women invited by the Royal Philharmonic Society to front a new scheme for female conductors in association with the Royal Northern Sinfonia at Sage Gateshead, and was a Young Artist with the Festival d’Aix en Provence’s ‘Young Women Opera Makers’ initiative, throughout the pandemic.
She began her musical journey as a pianist and organist. During her undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford, she held an Organ Scholarship at Hertford College, as well as Principal Conductorship of the Oxford University Philharmonia and the Oxford Contemporary Opera Society. Charlotte was the first student in Oxford’s history to hold the conductorship of the Philharmonia alongside the Conducting Scholarship of Schola Cantorum, Oxford’s premier chamber choir.
She also became interested in showcasing contemporary music to new audiences, and was MD for the UK premiere of British composer Gavin Bryars’ chamber opera Marilyn Forever. In 2022 she assisted Jonathan Berman at the Aldeburgh Festival, premiering eight new works with the Britten Pears Contemporary Ensemble.
As of September 2022, she was appointed Musical Director of the Royal Academy of Music’s inaugural Junior Musical Theatre Department. Further theatre credits include Keys Dep for Strictly Ballroom the Musical UK Tour, and Rehearsal Pianist for Only Fool’s and Horses The Musical, on London’s West End.
