Barbara Hannigan will be awarded the Glashütte Original MusicFestivalAward at the 43rd Dresden Music Festival.
This award not only recognizes Barbara’s dedication and passion as a performer, but also as a mentor. With her mentoring program, Equilibrium Young Artists, she passes on her own experiences to young musicians at the beginning of their professional careers, comprehensively preparing them for a demanding artistic profession.
“Barbara Hannigan is a creative volcano! She is one of the most innovative artists in today’s musical world. The courageous commitment to support young musicians she has shown from the beginning of her career has been particularly extraordinary and impressive. This is why she is ideally suited for the ›Glashütte Original MusicFestival Award‹ which honors artists who share cultural experiences with younger generations”
Jan Vogler, director of the Dresden Music Festival
In 2020, the »Glashütte Original MusicFestivalAward«, endowed with 25,000 euros, was donated by the watch manufacturer Glashütte Original for the 17th time and will be awarded in cooperation with the Dresden Music Festival. Glashütte Original has endeavored to preserve the unique heritage of the Glashütte watchmaking art since 1845. Like the award-winning artist, they demand the highest standards of quality from their works of art. Once more, students of the manufactory’s watchmaker school »Alfred Hedwig« have created the award this year.
The 43rd Dresden Music Festival takes place from May 12 to June 12, 2020. The award ceremony will follow her concert with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra on May 28, 2020, in the Kulturpalast Dresden.
